Overcoming Staff Shortages in Temporary Work

NEWS-BLOG

11 April 2022

Whether it’s a surge in orders or a production halt: the situation in German industry is not currently following any long-term plan. Instead, short-term staffing decisions – often on a day-to-day basis – are required. Absences due to illness amongst permanent staff or agency workers who fail to turn up for work as agreed can quickly throw the client company’s daily schedule into disarray. The so-called ‘no-show rate’ stands at around 5 per cent across all sectors; in the logistics sector, it can sometimes reach as high as 30 per cent, as shown by relevant absence statistics from temporary employment associations.

Successfully reducing the no-show rate

The following measures have proven effective in SYNERGIE’s recruitment process for keeping the no-show rate as low as possible, as it is central to our company philosophy to promote staff satisfaction and loyalty in order to ensure a long-term and stable relationship.

1. Realistic job descriptions

What can a temporary worker expect at the client company? What are the planned tasks, and what is the composition of the team on site? Who are the points of contact?
The better we keep our staff informed and support them, the easier it is for our temporary workers to settle in. After all, open and clear communication lays the foundation of trust for a long-term working relationship.

2. Accompany the temporary worker to their place of work on their first day

We accompany our temporary staff to the client’s premises on their first day. This helps to build a relationship of trust between the client company and the temporary staff and makes it easier for them to settle into their new role.

3. Enhance support through bespoke on-site programmes

SYNERGIE’s on-site managers look after the temporary staff at the client company. This not only significantly reduces the risk of assignments being cut short and the no-show rate, but also cuts down on administrative work, boosts productivity at the client company and ensures optimal utilisation of working hours.

This gives client companies the opportunity to respond more quickly and directly to staff shortages. After all, when it comes to whether suitable candidates are available, it’s often a matter of just a few hours!
