GVP Legal Forum: A Report

The GVP's Legal Forum on 9/10/24 in Erfurt addressed the Bureaucracy Relief Act, as well as many other exciting topics and legal questions concerning Job market and
Temporary work. SYNERGIE Germany was with Thomas Schenk and Michael Haitz of course, present on site and actively engaged with legal experts and industry colleagues.

Summary of the first day: Legal aspects of personnel services in focus!
The first day of the Legal Forum in Erfurt brought together around 250 participants to discuss important legal topics for the personnel services industry. Dr Alexander Bissels informed about the intended shift from written to textual form for temporary employment and employment contracts, which is expected to be implemented in January 2025.

Arne Franke discussed the future challenges for European social policy and their impact on the German sector. Minimum wages and transparent working conditions were at the forefront of these discussions.

In three practice forums, current legal questions were discussed. Beate Tewes discussed the inclusion of people with disabilities and overcoming prejudice. Mandy Ostermeier highlighted the development of the evidentiary value of sick notes and provided practical tips for employers. Stefan Meurer informed about the legal aspects of cannabis legalisation and its effects on employee health.
In the keynote by Prof. Dr. Martin Reufels the importance of choosing the right contract was highlighted. He explained the differences between temporary staffing contracts, service contracts, and contract-for-work agreements, and the potential legal consequences of incorrect decisions.

The second day in Erfurt offered an exciting mix of practical experience and politics. Dr. Martin Dreyer discussed the current challenges surrounding the minimum wage and the frustrating political influences.

Dr Guido Norman Motz highlighted the pitfalls for mixed operations in temporary employment and emphasised the importance of collective agreements. He explained how companies can respond flexibly to customer wishes but also face legal hurdles.

Dr Vera Luickhardt spoke about freedom of speech in the workplace and the balance between political engagement and industrial harmony.

In a lively discussion on the stimulus package, different perspectives on the economic situation and minimum wage increases were exchanged.

Finally, Dr. Martin Dreyer and Sven Kramer on the merger of the iGZ and BAP collective agreements, which could be concluded by Easter 2025.

Overall: Two very enriching days with many valuable insights!
