Online retail is booming – and not just since the coronavirus crisis
Amazon and other online retailers have been gradually eroding retailers’ turnover for many years. The pandemic acted as a catalyst, accelerating this trend. The sector reports growth of 23.2 per cent.
Logistics and transport companies are also benefiting from this enormous boom. With more than three million employees, they constitute Germany’s third-largest economic sector.
52.5 per cent Many German logistics companies have been able to draw a positive conclusion regarding their business activities following the coronavirus crisis and have recorded growth. However, they have also faced major challenges: global chaos in supply chains, pandemic restrictions, supply bottlenecks for electronic components and much more.
Despite everything, the outlook for growth in Germany remains positive. Job opportunities in logistics are diverse: there are entry-level positions at all skill levels, ranging from operational roles right up to senior management. At the same time, ongoing digitalisation and the emergence of digital business models are opening up new areas of work for which skilled workers are needed.
Temporary work: A flexible solution for the logistics sector
The logistics sector cannot cope with this boom on its own; this can only be achieved with the support of the temporary work sector. After all, the great strength of the temporary work sector lies in its ability to deploy people in various industries to take on new tasks. It is only through their flexibility that peaks in order volumes can be dealt with quickly and long-term staff expansion achieved.
Workers from other European countries are a welcome addition to the depleted German labour market. The international SYNERGIE Group has set up a programme specifically for this purpose Global Cross-Sourcing launched. With this service, SYNERGIE is targeting, amongst others, the logistics sector: in this sector, more than in almost any other, language barriers have long been overcome through multilingual operational and safety instructions.
