This year’s slogan is #EmbraceEquity, which essentially means establishing and „embracing“ gender equality.
Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic has been a setback for gender equality in the labour market. It was mostly women who had to cope with the multiple demands of housework, bringing up children, home schooling and work. On top of that, women across Europe still earn less than men on average. So there is still a great deal to be done in the future! We must provide women with equal opportunities and prospects in all sectors and industries and, above all, close the unfair pay gap between men and women. Anyone wishing to tackle the shortage of skilled workers in the labour market cannot do so without women!
So let’s celebrate International Women’s Day today and continue to work towards ensuring that women are equally respected and supported in all areas of life.
